An affordable insulin pump

Professional project
Introduction
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is a medical disorder that results from a failure of the patient’s pancreas to produce insulin. It is thought to be an autoimmune disease, wherein the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the beta cells (insulin-producing cells) in the pancreas. This condition cannot be prevented yet. Insulin treatment is a critical component of a diabetes treatment plan for people with T1DM.

Insulin pumps available in the market are expensive and cost around ₹ 3 Lakh. Our pump was designed to cost around 1/4th the cost.
My role
I worked as part of the electronics team on this project.
A graphical user interface for the clinical testing of the device was designed and implemented.

The implementation of a test-driven development-based approach in the project was implemented by to allow for more efficient development with fewer bugs

IEC 60601-1-2 compliant medical grade PCBs were designed after the derivation of the relevant requirements

The device drivers and algorithm to deliver an extremely precise quantity of insulin based on a feedback loop was created as part of my firmware development role
